On this year's 10 or 12 day trip to Italy we will explore Rome. I thought about including the Amalfi Coast and Naples but after seeing Rick's videos on those places, they really aren't appealing to me - too touristy. Has anyone experienced the Le Marche region? Is there a reason it isn't included in the majority of travel books, including Rick's? I would love to hear some experiences or insights. Thanks.
I lived there for a summer many years ago and am planning to go back this summer. Ascoli Piceno is great as is the Adriatic coast and I hear Ancona is too. I have fond memories of the mountians in Le Marche (Vettore) OUr local wine merchant frequently features wines from this region.
I have posted questions re this area and haven't had responses to some of them as this region.
You don't hear much about it because most people go to the places everybody talks about: Tuscany, the Cinque Terra and the Amalfi coast. I think it is definitely worth a visit. We were there twice, just before all the resorts opened and off season when a lot of them were closed. The Adriatic Coast is beautiful, nice beaches, and plenty of wonderful little towns. You can also visit another country, San Marino, while you're there. I say, do something different, go for it. Happy Travels.
