Has anyone visited Pitigliano in Tuscany?

I saw Pitigliano on a DVD about Tuscany & it looked interesting. Just wondering if it's worth a visit. Has anyone visited Pitigliano?

We rode our bike there in 2007 (from Sovana). The town is totally cool as you approach from the road, and as you you go away down the valley on the other side. The town "melts" upside down from the Tufa rock.

Inside the town, there isn't much to see. Like I said, we rode our bike here, so we were on our way to the coast. Just stopped long enough to walk through the streets, take a few pictures. We wanted to see the Jewish part of town, but it was a holiday, and the synagoge was closed, as were all the stores.

It's worth the trip to see the town from afar, but inside the town....not so much!!

I haven't been there myself, but from what I have read, I plan to include it on a trip I plan to take this fall. I don't know what your interests are, but interestingly enough, it seems Pitigliano has a significant Jewish history, with a cemetery and synagogue, ghetto from the Medici times, etc. That stuff interests me greatly, so I believe a few hours in the town would be worth my time. If not, maybe it's not worth a trip depending on how far you'd be coming from. The town and those that surround it are given a few pages in the Rough Guide Tuscany & Umbria book, if that'd help you (I took it out from the library).

Sheron,
We were in Pitigliano last Sept. and loved it! We traveled around Tuscany and Umbria by car for two weeks so visited a lot of places and it was one of our favorites. As an earlier poster said, from a distance it is really impressive, but the town itself has interesting architecture, beautiful fountains and magnificent views of the surrounding countryside. Well worth a stop!
