Has anyone used Trainline to purchase tickets for travel?

I am looking to travel from Avezzano to Florence. Trainline shows bus tickets for this route via Rome. Just wondering if Trainline is a reliable resource?

I use Trainline a lot so not sure why they are not showing trains for this route for you. Using tomorrow as the travel day, there are many options. What date are you searching?

I just ran the itinerary from Avezzano to Florence on Trainline, it gave me various trains for your route. I ran it for April 10, 2019. No issues that I could see. We have used Trainline in the past with no issues.

We had a good experience with Trainline in France last year. For a shorter trip we showed the Trainline paperwork to retrieve actual tickets at one of the Paris train stations. For the Nice to Paris trip, we printed tickets at home.

Italian trains update schedules twice a year, in June and December. Your travel date happens to be the day after this update. Regional trains don't get scheduled until right up to the deadline. They can't sell tickets for trains that have not been officially scheduled yet. You don't have to buy regional trains in advance anyway. The price is fixed and they never sell out.

quilt,

Yes, I've used Trainline to purchase tickets and they're my preferred source as they sell tickets for many rail networks all over Europe, including both major companies in Italy. They sell at the same price as the rail networks, and I've found their customer service to be great. Registration on the website is required, including payment details, but once that's done the process is very easy.

That is interesting Scythian. I made purchases recently on TheTrainline.eu with no added fees.

I just made dummy bookings on loco2 and trainline for March 21st on TGV 1607 from Paris Lyon to Avignon TGV. Same train, same day - both print ticket at home. The cheapest fare on trainline was $53.55 plus a $1.60 booking fee. The cheapest fare on loco2 was $52.00 - no booking fee. I didn't click "buy ticket" on either website, so I don't know if loco2 sticks on a fee at the last minute.

I don't think the price difference justifies a change from trainline to loco2, if trainline is one's preference. I was just curious.

The actual difference in dollars quoted above isn't a lot of money. But it is just over 6 percent, and people here squeal about a 3 percent charge to withdraw money so maybe it is a big deal to some?

I would consider 6% significant and would switch on that basis. However, if the comparison was between trainline and a train-operator website I was having trouble with, and I was trying to snag a 32-euro promo ticket while they were still available, the extra 6% would be less of an issue. It's really stressful to run into computer/credit card issues when you're trying to buy goods in limited supply. I've been through that with theatre tickets and sporting-event tickets, and it isn't fun.
