I used the bbplanet site to make a deposit payment for an agriturismo near Siena this past June. They did not transfer the payment to the agriturismo, or at least they had no record of it. Fortunately I had a copy of the receipt from bbplanet to show them, so they were going to straighten it out. What you might do, if you don't feel confident with the site itself, is take the names of the apartments and see if they have their own webiste, or look for reviews on Tripadvisor.
