BlaBlaCar is French / UK based and seems to have some good reviews for low-priced carpooling (Florence to Bologna 1.5 hrs @ 8 USD; By comparison: Train, 38 mins @ $30-50 USD; Bus, 1.45 mins @ $25-30 USD)—yet…I remain skeptical. Rates seem too good to be true? Does anyone have feedback or suggestions on this?

It's a French company, and I don't know why you are skeptical. Just remember that it is a carpooling website and not a taxi service.

I've never used them myself, but I've heard others being happy with them.
The important thing to remember is that it is a carpooling site, people driving from A to B can post their trip on the site if they are willing to take passengers. And you can search for available trips and see if there are any available. But there might not be. And the pick up and drop off locations are rarely centrally located.

I used it once in Spain in 2020 from Zaragoza to Segovia and it was fine. You need to pay attention of where they’ll pick you up and where they’ll drop you off. Those locations may not be convenient for you.
