Has anyone stayed in Lido?

I spent a few hours on the free beach there last fall. Loved the beach and the proximity to Venice. Has anyone stayed there and traveled back and forth to Venice? I love Venice and have stayed there the last two visits but am also drawn to the beach. And Lido is just a short vaporetto ride to the island. Any thoughts?

Yes! We have done this and enjoyed it. It's not that far by boat back into Venice proper and I think the air is a little cooler and less "stuffy" than it is in the main part of town. We actually camped out there so I can't recommend a hotel! You can also get directly out to some of the other places in the lagoon that you might want to visit without going back to Venice.

What some foreigners call "Venice proper" is actually called "Centro Storico" (historical center). The Lido is a district within the city limits.

I've stayed there only many years ago, and I'd say that for a first timer the historical center is a better choice. But you seem to have been there a few times already, therefore you would probably love spending some time at the beach when the calli are crowded with tourists. If you go in July/August the Lido is somewhat crowded too, however.

Yes! We spent a couple of nights there with a RS Family tour a few years ago and one 8 day holiday w/o family more recently. We enjoyed it both times immensely. We have also stayed in the Centro Storico (thank you, Roberto) a couple of times. Since you have already spent some time in Centro Storico, I think you might enjoy the peacefulness and quiet of the Lido. We had a 7 day vaporetto pass so transportation was never an issue and it was a fairly short but pretty ride back and forth.
