Are you sure you want to stay in Capri? I'd recommend staying in Sorrento, it has easy connection with the Capri by high-speed ferry and you will have more options for different activities on the Amalfi Coast like Pompeii for example. Or maybe a day trip to Naples. Sorrento in general is a great place too, take a look

Stay at beautiful La Minerva, a boutique hotel, for a wonderful stay on Capri. It is family owned and the hosts will get you reservations for dinner at all the best places. It is on a pedestrian path and has beautiful ocean views. Has a pool too. If you stay in this area you won’t be bothered by day trippers. Your luggage will be delivered to the hotel from your ferry.

Have visited Capri many times and love it. There is nothing better than sitting in the main square at night, listening to music with a glass of wine. Believe it or not there is a beautiful Best Western with a great pool and view. It is not anything like the Best Westerns in the States.

Many years ago stayed in Augustus Caesar in Ana Capri, cannot afford the rooms we had then, but this is the place I want to be , truly heaven on earth. We had a lovely ocean front balcony room where we sat in the morning and had coffee . My children know if I ever disappear, that is where I will be.

Have travelled a lot in Italy and probably my most favorite place is Capri. We stayed at Casa Morgana on Via Tragara, a lovely little street away from the crowds but close enough to get around easily. Wherever you stay be sure it is for at least 2 nights and that you splurge on a room with a sea view and terrace to really appreciate the island. Really romantic to hire a private boat tour around the island. Your wife is so lucky!

I second Suki’s recommendation of La Minerva. Wonderful hotel, family, and employees. It is a very special hotel!
