We are busy looking for our Matera lodging for October. Looks like most of the places we can afford (€150 or less a night) have too many stairs for my husband to lug my wheels up (shoulder issues from our last trip). But I’ve noticed several nice looking nore rural places about 3 mikes from Matera. We would then drive inti tiwn and park for sightseeing, has anyone stayed out if town? If so, how was it?
Although it is not out of town, we stayed at La Casa Di Melory last September. It is a reasonably priced apartment in your price range, with a great outdoor terrace. It also has an elevator and is walking distance to the ancient area and did appear to have street parking everywhere.
Thak you, Angelina. The apartment looked perfect, but already booked for our dates.
We stayed two nights in Gravina in Puglia within walking distance of the older part of that city. Gravina is worth seeing on its own as it's very evocative and built around a deep ravine and is not blitzed with visitors - little wonder they filmed a few scenes of the latest James Bond movie there. We did a day trip to Matera and it worked out really well, as it's only a 30 minute drive away so one can go early or stay late in Matera. https://www.wanderingitaly.com/maps/gravina-puglia.html
Mike, Where did you stay in Gravinia? Sounds good.
