Has anyone needed Covid treatment in Italy?

Would love to hear if Americans are able to obtain Covid treatment medications (such as Plaxovid) in Italy after displaying symptoms. Just incase. . .

I have friends that are in Sicily right now and they contracted covid on day 2 of their Rick Steve’s tour. Not only have the doctors and pharmacist never heard of Plaxovid, they also can’t seem to find any assistance whatsoever. They aren’t having luck getting food delivered to them in their hotel either. What a mess.

I just wanted to point out the importance of language. It is doubtful your friends contracted Covid on day two of their tour. It is more likely that they tested positive on day two from an exposure prior to the tour.

Regardless, I hope their situation improves. It must be trying.

Plaxlovid was approved by AIFA (the Italian Med Drug Authority) and by EMA (European Medicine Agency) in early Feb 2022. I read it is available in pharmacies with a physician's prescription. I also read it costs Euro 650 per treatment. Not sure if that is just the co-pay that Italian would need to pay or if it's the gross charge price.

Thank you, Roberto. I figured would is a significant cost, but nice to know it is being prescribed.
April, sorry for your friends’ experience.
