Or vice-versa? Google maps has the drive as under 3.5 hours going up through Austria. But this is the mountains, so I wanted to do a reality check. I don't mind mountain roads, but want to avoid thinking its 3.5 hours and its really 5 or 6... Time is late June. Thanks!
Since Cortina is in the mountains and Lake Bled is on the other side of the mountains, I see no practical way around driving through mountains. You will need both an Austrian and Slovenian vignette sticker for your car. They are not expensive, unless you forget to get them and get stopped, then they will be expensive.
Sam, thanks for the reminder about the vignettes. Yes, it is mountain driving. I have driven all over the Sierras and Rockies for decades and know there can be major differences between what google thinks, and what is reality. Not to mention construction, one-way tunnels and bridges etc.... I am seeking someone with on-the-ground info. I assume there is someone on the forum that has made the drive.
I've driven most of those roads at one time or another. The roads are so good I don't remember a thing about them except I wish New England rural roads were half as good. Google adjusts its time according to real world data, so you should not take much longer if you allow for stops.
