Has anyone done the Colosseum by Night tour?

Please share any info about this tour. Seems like it's a mandatory guided tour but not sure what it's about. Could we venture off on our own?

It's been really hot and humid and I think it might be a good option. thanks!

It's a guided tour of the underground. You cannot wander off without the guide. The tour does not include the third tier and is a special event so your ticket won't include entry to the forum/palatine hill either.
