I want to go to Pavia to visit the church of San Pietro in Ciel d'Oro (site of the tomb of St Augustine of Hippo). I'm wondering if anyone has been there. What you thought of the town? Interesting sites? The ease with which I could get to Pavia by public transit and get to that church once I arrive in town? I'm flying into Milan early morning, plan to see the cathedral in Milan morning/midday, and then head to Pavia and spend the night there. I'd welcome suggestions!
Just outside of Pavia is Certosa di Pavia. It's a massive wonderful ornate duomo out in the middle of farmland. I've never been there but it looks wonderful. Pavia looks like one of those overlooked towns, a smaller non-touristy version of San Gimignano. I didnt care much for Milan But some of those towns around the area look great. Lots of castles in the area.
