My partner and I are struggling with the planning of the last 2 days of our trip. We are starting in rome, sorrento, then minori. After that we aren't sure whether or not to stay in Salerno (where it seems hard to find a place with good transportation). Or move on to Bari or Matera or another town close. Any suggestions?
Kat, will you have a rental car? The drive on the A16 to the area around Bari is absolutely beautiful, and would only take a couple of hours. Whatever you do, stay away from Bari ( personal crime is rampant)
We just got back from Puglia this June.
I would suggest you stay in Trani, a beautiful little portside town with very wonderful and reasonable restaurants. ( and a great little B&B 1/2 block from the water for only 50E/nite)
You could do a day trip and explore the other seaside towns, and eat on the plazza at the Punto E a Capo in Giovanazzo (best dinner we have ever had in Italy, and the most reasonable) or drive down the road to Poliagano A Mare and eat at the Hotel/Restarant Grotta Palazzese, a very romantic grotto restaraunt that sits on the ocean and also inside a cave with fantastic food.
You could do the slow drive to Matera, and stay in a "cave hotel". Matera is a fun place to visit, but only for part of a day.
Send me a PM if you would like more info.
