I'll be in Rome from April 1st - Easter Monday and I'm concerned many things could be closed. Or maybe there are events not listed in guidebooks that are worth checkingout. Any thoughts? How far in advance do I need to book my hotel?
If you know you will be in Rome book the hotel now, just make sure you understand the cancellation policy.
Many, if not most, shops and stores will be closed on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday. But almost all "tourist" sites are open (except the Vatican Museums) and so are many of the restaurants catering to tourists. Businesses catering to locals are far more impacted than the tourist locations. For a look at my experience in St. Peters Square during Easter Mass, CLICK HERE
