Have you done the pilgrimage on the Via Francigena? It originally started in Cantebury and continued, almost in a bee-line to Roma. Today only the Italian way is marked with a little pilgrim. I am interested in Medieval Churches, Abbeys and towns.
I walked ~56 miles of the Italian Via Francigena during four days last month with my brother Andrew and sis-in-law Sarah. They walked much more of it (reached Rome) and other pilgrim trails before that starting in Germany on Aug 23 - see http://www.hereiwalk.org for details. They will be interviewed next Monday by Rick Steves for his radio show; broadcast date tbd.
Kathleen, I was actually looking into doing the Via Francigena last year but never got round to walking it. Have you seen the website www.viafrancigena.com? If you plan to walk the Tuscan part of it with a guide, you could contact Walk About Tuscany which is run by the affable Gianni, and see if he can tailor a walk for you.
