Hard for me to select apartment in Rome

We are in Rome for 5 nights in June and planning to book an apartment - it is so hard to make a selection as there are so many and they look really nice in our price range (200 euros day max). Since friends are with us, looking for 2bd, 2 ba. Any suggestions of areas or specific apartments preferably through homeaway.com????

I absolutely love this apartment. We stayed here last summer. I found out about it here on this forum. It's in Trastevere in a fun lively area. It has lots of restaurants and real people live here. And the rent was very reasonable. It's a block or 2 to the tram and bus but we walked to all the sights.

There is also a direct website, but I booked it on Homwaway.

We really loved our apartment in Trastevere--- spent a week there.

You have to be OK with stairs, as the apartment is spread over three levels (four if you count the upper roof terrace). The layout is a bit unconventional. You enter directly into a little ground floor foyer from the square ( Piazza San Giovanni della Malva). Go up the wide stairs to the kitchen on the first floor. It is a small kitchen with a small eating area--- we took breakfast there but had dinner on the roof deck. Continue up the stairs to the second floor where you will find a large bedroom/sitting area with windows out to the square and very nice high-tech bathroom with an amazing rain shower.

Up another flight to the third floor which has the second ( smaller) bedroom and another ( smaller) bathroom, and access to the lower roof terrace-- the nice one you see in the photos. Stairs from that deck take you to the upper roof deck if you want more views, but the lower one is nicer for sitting.

We loved the location--- just a five- minute walk from Ponte Sisto which takes you straight into the historic center. There is a taxi stand by the bridge if you want a taxi, or you can walk a few blocks down and catch the tram into Piazza Venezia. But we mostly walked everywhere--- to the Colosseum and Forum, the Vatican, Piazza Navona, Pantheon, and the Villa Borghese. If we were far away at dinner time we would take a cab back.

Lorenzo has an office next door and is often but not always there. He is a very gracious host--- our daughter's luggage was delayed and he helped us arrange contact and delivery.

I believe Malva Palace has its own website, and is also listed on other sites than Homeaway. We booked through Tripadvisor.

We stayed at this flat last year and it is fabulous - 2 bedrooms - queen in each. Two bathrooms - one ensuite. Fifteen foot ceilings - huge living room, dining room kitchen - . I entertained 8 people at dinner easily. Bruno is an attentive host . The flat is in the Prati - 10 minutes from the Vatican in a real neighborhood - a new Simply grocery store around the corner with service meat and fresh fish counters and a Pam shop up the street.

Might be best if the OP selected a few of their top choices and posted them so folks could comment which location is best.
As a general rule if you can afford it staying in the pantheon or piazza navona immediate area is the best but not sure an apartment of that size would be within budget in those areas, unlikely I imagine. Campo De Fiori area maybe and is also nice and close to here.

If viewing different addresses, as close to a public piazza is better than further from one.
In Rome I do think location matters a good deal as the city is really lively and you just get a different vibe if you are in an area that is mostly pedestrianized, cobblestones and surrounded by outdoor cafes and fountains, etc... The ancient center offers close proximity to many sites and the atmosphere I am describing.

Check out #6662030 on vrbo/homeaway, marvelous, large apartment and owner Isabella is amazing. It's in Prati, a beautiful area of the city, convenient to Vatican and central Rome. If you email her, tell her Susan in Hendersonville says hello!
