I wonder if I can make it around the old city where there is so much to see, I look at the pavement in some photos and
it looks pretty rough, but how much of that is there? I use a wheelchair but can walk about 10 minutes without it, can also
climb stairs.

In general Roma can be difficult to navigate even on two feet. Cars park in the pedestrian crossings and there are the cobblestones and narrow streets. Many sites lack ramps. If you have a companion traveler, it would be helpful especially in getting around improperly parked cars.
