We're leaving in a week. Unfortunately last minute change in schedule. Now find oursleves after visiting the ruin overnighting in Pompeii with a a rental car. Already booked the hotel. Then have to be back to Rome the next day at 7pm meeting friends for dinner. Would love to see briefly Sorrento and/or Positano. Is this possible? What's the best way?

I've been reading about the road to Amalifi being closed in a small area for construction. The closure is near Praiano which I believe is after Positano so you should be alright.

Julie: You're going to want to look at these maps (the 2 links at the bottom of this) and look closely at driving times. The driving times given in both of these don't include any stops. In addition, many travelers here feel these driving times need to have about 25% added to them to be more accurate. Kent, thanks a lot. I checked; Pompeii-Sorrento 28km 40mim, Sorrento-Positano 16km 25 min, Positano-Rome 275km 3hr30min. We'll leave early, stop at Sorrento, lunch at Positano and back to Rome for 7pm dinner. Not the ideal way, however, best we can do. You're a great help.
