half day in rome!

We have a half day in rome before we go to the airport.
We'd like to get around efficiently to 2 or 3 sites during this time. Would welcome suggestions on the best way to do this. Are thinking of the collesuem/forum/vatican Should we hire a guide? I notice they all seem to say the same: 50euro/hr + transport+ entries, but can they get help skip queues etc if time is of the essence?

Only hire a guide if you wish for more indepth information about the sites. If you have a good guide book you should be fine. You can buy your entry tickets for the colosseum, forum and palatine hill at any one of those sites so just pick one without line. This will allow you to bypass the line at the other 2 sites. I don't think you'll have enough time to visit the vatican and the colosseum area. The Vatican is very large and is made up of several different areas. You may be able to visit the basilica and then go to the colosseum area but I would skip the vatican museums because of the time limit. Donna
