Hair and Makeup

We're getting married in Siena in a few weeks (yikes!) the wife-to-be needs to find a hairdresser to help her out on the big day. Nothing fancy or elaborate (she is a Seattle girl, after all), just enough to make her look like she didn't just cross half the world to marry me. So far the wedding coodinator hasn't been much help. We'll, he did find someone who could do the hair for 500euro and the makeup for 400euro, but we decided we'd rather spend our money on frivolous vacation stuff, like, you know, food and shelter. The B&B hasn't responded and we won't have family there, so we on our own on this one. Does anyone know of a salon or hairdresser in Siena or Florence? If not, what are the odds of finding a salon while we're there? We'll be in Siena for a week before the wedding - do you think it will be possible to find a salon that could fit her in on the wedding day? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

parrucchiere is the word for hair dresser (I think, better check Google translate) and one that does women's hair is a parrucchiere da donna. For fun I asked The Google to find them in Siena, on Maps as well as Images, and there were a lot of hits. Choosing one is a topic as far out of my experience as anything possibly could be. Good luck

I would try posting on Trip Advisor. There is a forum for each city and most forums have at least one or two locals. They would probably have the kind of information you need.

Definitely salons over there and I would recommend your fiancé post the question as to which salons are the best over on the forums at Makeupalley.com. There are lots of European women who post there and dispense advice on all things related to hair, makeup and salon services. She may want to contact the salon/makeup artist in advance of the trip to set up a consultation a few days before the big day so they understand the look she wants to have, and your fiancé should bring some photos of herself when she had makeup and a hairstyle that she really loved, or at least some magazine pictures of different hairstyles and makeup looks that suit her style. Nothing would be worse for a bride than to blindly walk into a salon on her wedding day and they make her up to look like a Vegas hooker when it's the most important day of her life.

You also might try posting this question on slowtrav.com. There are several members that live in Italy and might be able to help.

Contact my freind Diane at this address [email protected] She has a wedding make up business in Florence, and should know about hairdressers.
