Guided tours for the Colosseum (Rome) and Pompeii, Capri

My husband and I will be staying in Rome for 7 nights this coming October 4 -11.
I would like recommendations on a good guided tour (in English) of the Colosseum, at a reasonable price. Joining a small group would be fine.
RS mentions regularly departing tours for around 10 euros, but says that they usually sell out, and doesn't specifically mention the tour companies--does anyone know?
Also, RS says private guides standing outside the Colosseum for 25-30 euros can be booked on the spot--has anyone done this? and is the quality good?
Any specific recommendations would be welcome...

From Rome we go to Sorrento for the next 7 nights (Oct. 11-17).
I'd like to do two guided tours there--one for a day in Pompeii, and one full-day boat tour for Capri.
I'm strongly leaning towards the RS -recommended Mondo Guided Tours. They all depart from Sorrento (where we are staying), are limited to smaller groups, and are very reasonable.

But I'm interested in hearing feedback from anyone who has experienced these Mondo tours before I book anything.
Thank you for any replies in advance!

We did the Mondo Tour of Pompeii in November. It was really good. Our guide, Manuela, is an archeologist and gave us a great tour of Pompeii. We did the 2 hour tour and then looked around ourselves. Really enjoyable.

Askos Tours is also excellent for Pompeii and Herculaneum, and their tour guides similarly are all graduate archeologists. Ours had a doctorate in the field.
