Our family of four is visiting Venice and Florence. We will be in Venice two days and Florence four days. Can you recommend a tour guide/company for Venice and for Florence? or it is necessary? Many thanks.
"Necessary" for what? There are plenty of self-guided tours you can do. (Rick Steves has loads of them for those two cities.) A good guide can definitely enhance the experience of any place, but at a cost. It all depends on your interests and your budget. Share a little more of those here to get better recommendations.
Rick has a great audio tour for both cities
Thank you Robert and Michael. I was thinking a guided tour would be "necessary" to effectively use our time. I can download the audio tours. Many thanks
Check Context Travel on the Internet. I travel independently, but I've used Context for walking tours in many cities… Including Florence and Venice. Their tours are amazing.
Maria, Rick Steves's audio tours can be great, but to be effective you would probably need to arrange a way for each of the four of you to be listening on headphones at the same time, maybe by having the tours loaded onto four phones or tablets or whatever. I have heard very good things about Context Tours but never actually used them. I did have excellent tours and guides from both Walks of Italy and Dark Rome Tours. Both of those companies do group and private tours in Venice, Florence, and Rome, also some in Milano and the Tuscan countryside.I had an excellent tour from a very personable guide in Venice, who I know is available for private and group tours. She could no doubt tailor something to your family if you were interested. I think, but I'm not sure, that I still have her contact information, so if you're interested send me a private message and I'll try to dig that out of my piles!
