Guided museum tours in Florence

Does anyone have suggestions for guided museum tours in Florence? Rick’s suggestions or otherwise.
Thank you.

Joel,

There are a multitude of tour companies running tours of the major museum in Florence (and elsewhere in Italy). I actually prefer to take a escorted tour of the museums for a couple of reasons. 1) They handle the ticketing process. And 2) the guide knows more about the subject material than I ever will. I find it a good value.

One of the popular packages, and one that I have down in the past, is the Accademia and Uffizi same-day visit. One of the museums, usually the Accademia (houses David), will be in the morning and the other will be in the afternoon. I actually found this to be a bit undesirable and recommend you visit them on different days if you have the time to do so. I found each museum to mentally fatiguing due to the sensory stimulation and the break between the two tours not enough to recover.

Running a google search for Florence Tours will result in plethora of tour operator and options. I used Viator to book my tours for its convenience. If you want to book directly instead of through an aggregator such as Viator, I had a really good experience with the WalkaboutFlorence tour company.

My tour company of choice is Context Tours - I took one of their tours in Florence (Uffizi) and 3 others elsewhere during my trip to Italy. Their group tours are small (max 6 people) and their guides are wonderful.

I second Rachel’s recommendation. Paul Costa was one the best guides we’ve had the pleasure of touring with.

Just IMHO, that Globus itinerary is a mad-dash marathon that I would personally not recommend for anyone. Based on what I'm seeing there, I definitely wouldn't go to them for a Florence museum itinerary program.
(Editing to add, that post was reported for guideline violation and has since been removed.)

Joel, how much time will you have in Florence and which types museums are you most interested in? If anything, only the Uffizi and Pitti Palace might benefit most from guided museum tours 'cause they're so big. Still, a tour which combines some others of interest might be fine if your time is short. You just don't want to try and cram TOO much into a day. :O)

I haven't used them personally but they're recommended SO often and so positively from so many RS posters who've used them that I'd take a look at Walks of Italy as well as the suggestions from the other folks.
