Steve's link is to a Lonely Planet article about the Dolomites.

Go here for LP's Northern Italy Travel Guide.

I used um...Blue Moon I think it was called. They have ones for Northern Italy, Central Italy, Southern Italy. Haven't actually taken the trip yet so I don't know how well they work but I found them pretty easy to understand/use.

I like the Cadogan guides, and they have an edition called "Venice, Venetia and the Dolomites."

Hi Liz - I am a huge "Blue" Guide fan. And I know there are also "Moon" Guides or handbooks - but a "Blue Moon" travel guide?

This book is excellent -

Blue Guide Northern Italy: From the Alps to the Adriatic, Twelfth Edition

Blue Guides are more for art, history and architecture that day to day travel advice, but they are moving more in that direction. If you want to know what painting is in what church, or what artist painted it - this is the book.

The Blue guide is the one I was thinking of. Apparently I was looking at way too many guidebooks!
