My question is should I book a tour guide to go to some of the museums when I can just listen with RIck Steve's guide with my phone in most of the places I am going to. ( Florence )
I have no sense of direction. Sometimes I can't find Rick's landmarks, and sometimes the museum has moved art works. For me, I'd use the museum's resources. You may have better instincts than I do. Have a great trip!
I like Rick:s self-guided tours both in museums and for walks. We’ve indulged in private tours for the Colosseum,, Vatican, and Pompeii as they are more complicated. For the Uffizi and Academia, you should be fine with Rick’s book or audio guide.
Most museums in Europe have audio guides that you can pay to use for a small fee.
I took a tour of the Uffizi several years ago. I don't remember who I booked with. The tour moved rather quickly, so I went back to look at a number of paintings on my own. I also visited to Accademia on my own, and loved it. I like moving slowly, and taking my time.
Both museums are lovely! Enjoy!
