We will be in Florence for 4 days and would like to travel to Siena and the surrounding area. Does anyone have a driver or guide they could recommend?
I am assuming you would like a private tour, so this may be irrelevant; but would it be a possibility to rent the car or make the drive yourselfs? It's quite easy to navigate, and as long as you stick to the country roads, you'll be fine as far as traffic is concerned. have an good map just in case, and a phone with a pre-loaded GPS (in case there's no wireless to load, and you run off pre-bought data). (PS _ We never had to do this, just followed the signs towards the town names, eventually back to Siena for us - easy-breezy!).
The CHiantigiana, I believe it's the SS222, connects Florence to Siena after meandering throughout the beautiful CHianti regions, directly passing through Greve, Radda, Castelinna, Stradda, Volpaia, and many others, as well as numerous olive groves, vineyards, and farm houses, not only with tastings, but with vacation rentals. If you go it alone, REMEMBER** hours are different, they typically close between 2-6 or somewhere around there. check into that in any given towns you'reinterested in. Or, just always have a backup picnic, that wouldn't be too shbby either... :) Find a beautiful vista, have a great glass on Chianti to sip (just a sip for the driver) and picnic in the worlds most beautiful region.
Suggest you take a look at Context Florence. They have several private tours to various areas of Tuscany and I believe they will also do custom tours. I've always had great experiences with them.
