Guide in Bologna

My husband and I will be in Italy in October and we have several hours in Bologna. In order to maximize our time, we are thinking of getting a guide for about 4 hours. Does anyone have a particular guide to recommend? Also, we would like a suggestion for a good restaurant on the Piazza Maggiore. Many thanks.

I went into the visitor info center on the main square and they offer walking tour with English speaking guide. I can't remember how much it was - but not much and was leaving in about 30 minutes . I really enjoyed it and found the university very interesting. The Cathedral is beautiful .... and I feel like I got a very good orientation of the city and university area. I then walked several places on my own with a map that I picked up at the tourist info center/office.

My wife and I took a food tour with Fabio Bergonzini, working with Guida Turistica, in Bologna. It was a great experience, taking us to see Parmesan cheese being made in the morning, an attic where Balsamic vinegar was aging, a plant that processes prosciutto. It included a fabulous lunch at a great restaurant out in the country. I would highly recommend Fabio.

He knows Bologna very well and would be able to show you the local sites.
