Guidance on planning first trip to Northern Italy and Chamonix

Hello. I am planning my first trip to the Northern Italy (Dolomites/Lake Como/Milan) and possibly a few days in Turin/Chamonix.
Targeting early September this year. First stop - dedicating 3 days in Dolomites. Looking at Seceda, Lago di Braies, Alpe di Siusi and Val Garden. Was originally looking to stay at hotel in Cortina d'Ampezzo (as a base camp), but now reconsidering Ortisei or Kastelruth instead.

  1. Dolomite Base/Hotel: would appreciate your base camp location recommendation, as well as hotel recommendations.
  2. Drive from Dolomites into Lake Como: recommendation on best route.

Thank you in advance.

Hello there - It looks like you will be spending most of your time in Val Gardena, which is the valley leading to Seceda and Alpe di Siusi so I recommend basing yourself near Ortisei, which places you next to the lifts that reach both Seceda and Alpe di Siusi. In terms of hotel recommendations, it really depends on your budget. There is a wide range of options. If you want to be within walking distance of restaurants, the lift stations, etc. look for a place in or near the center of Ortisei. If you want to be surrounded by mountain views, look for a place on Alpe di Siusi. Have a wonderful trip!
