Driving through Umbria and staying two nights in Gubbio. is it better to stay in the town or just outside. I booked the Bosone Palace but I know parking will be difficult. Thanks for any suggestions.
I can't speak to overnight parking, as we visited Gubbio as a day trip. Finding parking wasn't difficult, but we paid careful attention to signs and stayed out of the ZTL area. I would think hotel staff could provide you with parking information prior to your arrival.
I would certainly opt for staying in town. We really enjoyed our time in Gubbio. Be sure to ride the birdcage lift to Sant'Ubaldo! There is a well-maintained (as of four years ago) path leading back to town, as well as a bar/cafe near the Basilica-decent food and incredible views!
Thanks for these tips. Appreciate them.
We just got back from a month-long trip to Italy, and we spent three nights in Gubbio. Gubbio was definitely one of the highlights of our trip. I cannot speak to parking because we arrived via bus from Perugia. We stayed at Relais Ducale Hotel and thoroughly enjoyed it. We splurged for the terrace suite with wonderful views. The hotel staff were very helpful. We also took the ride in the "birdcage" (funuvia) up the mountain to the Basilica of St. Ubaldo. We walked the path down which was well groomed. Our two favorite places to eat dinner were Taverna del Lupa and Il Picchio Verde (near Bosone Palace). Enjoy!
