We went to Gubbio last fall for a day and loved it, so we decided to try to return for the Festival of the Ceri in May. The Festival of the Ceri features a race involving some enormous candles, among many other things. It's the town's biggest festival. We booked a hotel, and now we're wondering what to expect. We don't have any restaurant reservations, and we're not sure how difficult that will be to do on the fly. I imagine the town will be packed, so I'm a little reluctant to just leave things to chance. Also, we have 2 young children, so we'll probably stay on the periphery of the massive crowds, but I also don't want this to be a day of unmitigated boredom for them, just standing in crowds waiting for things to happen. Have any of you attended this festival before? Can we handle the logistics on the fly as long as we have a hotel room? Are we being ridiculous by bringing our children there? Any thoughts?
