If that travel time and weekdays fit where you want to go, and assuming you can't get a regular discounted ticket ahead of time for the cost then go for it. I would check the Italo website first to see what the discounted tickets are ahead of time if you know where you want to go.

I consider train tickets to be pretty affordable to start with, whether you pay full standard class fare or choose from two levels of discounts available starting three months ahead of travel. See www.trenitalia.com or www.italotreno.it.

This is something we might be interested in. However, we cannot seem to access this web page from the US. ?
Searching Groupon.com for any cities in Italy returns the error code "We couldn't understand that location. Try another Zip/Postal Code..." We even tried using the 'Torino e Piemonte' location referenced in the above link without success. Any ideas?
Thanks.

You have to go to groupon.it to get to the Italian site and it's in Italian.

Sometimes it asks for a postal code - I just use the one from my hotel or apartment in Italy.

And, the deals on Groupon Italy are usually very specific as to the dates they are valid, so pay close attention to those (and note the date format is day/month/year
