Group Ticket for Train

I'm leading a family group of 16 (8 adults, 8 teens, don't ask) taking the train from Zurich to Milan and on to Florence. I have purchased and have in hand a ticket (a printout) for 16. My question is do we all push on to the train with the one ticket? Or do I at the station convert it to 16 tickets?

Where did you purchase the tickets from? If buying in advance, you should have 16 separate tickets with assigned seats for each person.

Thanks ebonecapone! I got the group ticket online from Trenitalia. It has 16 seat numbers listed on it.

Normally with group tickets, only the leader has the ticket showing him/her to be the leader and the number in the group. You should show carriage and seat numbers for 16 people, since seat reservations are required. If you have that, you should be good to go.

What you have is good. One ticket can have more than one person on it. Just fight amongst yourselves who has each of the 16 seats.
If the ticket inspector asks one of the other 15 for a ticket, they can just point at you.
And of course trains have no check-in, so nobody will ask to see ticket before you push on the train (one after another please ☺).

I have seen whole school classes travel by train. They reserve a whole coach, and the teacher has one ticket for all of them.
