group and family tickets on trenitalia... worth it or not?

Does anyone have experience with buying the group and family tickets on trenitalia? I see that it is available however, I don't see where to register my group or if I have to make a phone call to do so. Also, I am wondering if it is worth the cost or am I better off booking my family as 1 group with "insieme", my brothers family as 1 group with "insieme", and my mom and uncle with "seniors"

I am going to be traveling with a group of 12 family members. 2 are senior citizens (mother and uncle), my family of 5: 2 adults, children ages 4, 5, and 20; my brother's family of 5: 2 adults and children ages 8, 11, and 13. We will be using the freccia trains along our journey through Italy on 4 occasions: Rome to Naples, Naples to Venice, Venice to 5 Terre, and 5 Terre to Rome. In some cases I will have to use the regional trains but it is our hope to use the fast trains when possible.

Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated

The Insieme fare is showed as one of the available ones when you enter 5 as number of passengers on trenitalia.com/en.html

You have to fill all the fields (from/to day of travel etc) and click search. On the search results page, open the drop down menu next to the "starting from" price and you'll see all possible fares. Prices are per group, not per person. Base is the walk-up fare, you can't pay more even if you buy last minute.

There is no need to "register", once you have selected a fare just click "buy without log-in".

There are no discounts on Regionale trains and no reserved seats, so neither the discounted tickets nor the seats can sell out.
