Greve Wine Festival

Has anyone been to this annual event in September, is it worth the time going?

Thanks for mentioning this. We will be in Tuscany during the festival. I'm looking forward to the replies you will receive.

The more the merrier :-)
We were thinking of checking out Montefioralle that day as well since it's about a 15 minute walk from Greve.
The only thing I have heard about the wine festival is that they can potentially run out of taster glasses and to get there earlier in the day.

Sounds like a lot of fun. Unfortunately, we won't be in the area until the end of September. Where are you staying? I'm still trying to figure out the most central place to stay in Tuscany.

Denise - We are staying at Agriturismo Marciano, located just outside Siena. It has come highly recommended. You can check it out on Trip Advisor. It seems to be fairly central.

I checked mapquest to see how far Siena is from Greve in Chiani. According to them it is a one hour drive. I am excited to find out the wine festival is happening during our time there. We won't be able to go on the Sunday, as we leave our agriturismo that morning to go to Florence. If we are going to any museums it will need to be Sunday, as they are closed on Mondays. Bad timing on our part for Florence, but we can't rearrange our schedule. Oh well...we will do the best we can.

Hi Denise, we are staying at Villa Vignamaggio where Mona Lisa grew up - http://vignamaggio.com/index-english.html
I believe this is only a short taxi from Greve-in-Chianti, but I don't know how "central" it is to the rest of Tuscany (it's an hour drive from Florence)......we are only here for a couple of days and it is our down time while we are in Italy!

I've gone to it twice, the first time we didn't drink as I was with a non-drinker but they had free 3 hour tours. That was in 2000 or 01 so I don't know if they're still doing them. I also went a couple years ago and drank and it was lots of fun. Pace yourself. If you need to try wines other than chianti there is a winebar a few blocks away, ask for directions. If it's hot, make sure to drink water too, actually, even if it isn't hot. You'll have fun, even if you aren't that crazy about chianti!!
