We will be traveling from Florence to Greve by bus in September. Once we have spent time in Greve, we plan to go to an area winery. We are considering either Castello di Verrazzano or Azienda Montefioralle. Has anyone been to both of these wineries and which one would you recommend? Also, has anyone taken a taxi from Greve to either winery, was it easy to arrange and what is the approximate cost?
Thanks for your help.
Susan,
We went to the lunch tour at Verrazzano 3 years ago and loved it. Some friend of ours went this past May and had rave reviews. Our guide was great and the food was wonderful. We had our own car so can't comment on a taxi. Have a great trip!
Susan, in May of 2010, I also enjoyed the lunch and tour combination at Castello de Verrazano in Greve. It was fabulous. Since I was nut driving, I took the public SITA bus from the main station in Florence. The walk up to the castle from the bus stop will probably take at least 30 minutes though. I was fortunate to hitch a ride from a kind couple going to the same tour. All in all, I had a wonderful time there. Happy travels!
Castello, Castello, Castello... I hope Gino is still giving the tours, we had the time of our lives. Go to their web site and make the reservations with a meal, it's well worth it. The place is beautiful. You can get there by car or bus. Those real travelers bus it. I'm not a true traveler. Ha ha ha... they will pick you up at their welcome center and whisk you in a mini bus to the winery. If you are a true traveler you can try to hike to the top, but it's a tough climb. You can also stay at their Agri-turismo Inn. You can also sample their wines at at the Cantaneta di Verrazzano in Florence. Check out their web site.
Ditto Castello de Verrazano for a tour and lunch. We just stopped by and they were very accommodating. this was our last meal in Itlay 2 trips ago and we loved the setting.
