Has anyone ever stayed in Greve in Chianti. Looking to book a place for a night, but not sure if it is worth going out of the way for it
I haven't stayed in Greve, but have been there. It's not anymore special than other places in the Chianti. I wouldn't go out of your way to stay specifically there, but you should go out of your way to stay in the Chianti region.
Maybe if you were planning to go to the chianti wine festival held in Greve in September. You can google "greve wine festival." We didn't do this personally, but my daughter and her husband did and really enjoyed it.
Stacey:
I have not stayed in Greve either but have been there several times. Greve is not one of the charming hill towns - it sits on the valley floor. The nearby hill towns have gobs of charm (Panzano, Volpaia, Radda, Etc.)and may be of more interest to you.
The great things about Greve are the wonderful wine shops (remember Greve is in the heart of Chianti) and the huge market (market day is Saturday as I recall). Our visits to the Greve market have been memorable. Have fun.
I agree that Panzano only a few short minutes away is SO much more charming. Lots of good agriturismos near Panzano.
Hi Stacey
We stayed about a 5 minute drive from Greve at Castello di Verrazzano. They have converted the original farmhouse to about 8 hotel style rooms and we had a wonderful (several course) lunch at the vineyard up the road.
Roberta was very helpful and I believe the room rate was quite reasonable.

Here is the 2nd vote for Castello di Verazzano and Roberto. She is nothing short of amazing. You will leave there not as a friend but as family. I regret not taking the time sit on the terrace overlooking the olive trees and grape vines with a bottle of wine. Don't miss out on the wine tasting dinner or lunch. It's worth the price alone just for the wine.
