My husband and I have travelled many times to central and northern Italy, but decided to spend a few days this year in Sorrento. Since we had never been there together, we decided to seek the guidance of Rick Steves regarding what to do. One of the things we were interested in was doing private tours - this allowed for maximum flexibility due to some special needs we had. Rick and his team recommended a tour company in Sorrento, Giovanna Donadio ([email protected] ), so we read posted reviews and decided to contact her to find out what she had to offer!
Giovanna sent us several options and we decided to do private tours (just my husband and myself) for the 2 days we had planned. We not only had our own driver, but we also were given very well informed tour guides for the excursions we took.
Day 1 - was great! We went to Herculaneum and Pompeii - with lunch at a charming winery at the base of Mount Vesuvius. Our driver - Tony - and our tour guide - Luisanna - were friendly, flexible and incredibly knowledgeable about all of the places we went and the things we saw. We liked Herculaneum more than Pompeii because it was less crowded, but we were glad we did both.
Day 2 - was AMAZING!! We chose a driving tour of the Amalfi coast. We were gifted with the best of all companions for the day, Giovanna's husband, Francesco!! Since he grew up in the area we got to see and learn about things most people would never have the opportunity to do with a "run of the mill" tour. We went to Positano, Ravello & Paestum (our Paestum tour guide - Maria - was just great!) We stopped along the way to have lunch at a farm that produced Buffalo Mozzarella (including seeing the water buffaloes from which the cheese originated.) By the end of the day, we knew we had a friend for life in Francesco.
The prices of the tours were very reasonable & the quality of the experience was OUTSTANDING! We HIGHLY recommend Giovanna and Francesco (and their teams) to anyone and everyone. Their kind and generous spirits gave us the sense of spending the day with family and we can't wait to come back and see them again.
