Great tour of Tuscany and Umbria with Road Scholar tours

We just returned from a great 12 day tour of The Hidden Medieval Villages of Tuscany and Umbria.
We stayed in Siena for five days and did day trips to nearby towns and villages as well as touring Siena. Also, by bus we move to Spoleto, in Umbria after visits Gubbio in route. Then we visited Spoleto, Assisi, Perugia and then Orvieto in route to the hotel at the Rome Airport to return home.

Some days in Tuscany we visited two places. In Umbria we spent the entire day in one city.

The hotels were four star and excellent in great locations.
Our tour guides for each location were excellent and our tour leader, Katrina was fantastic.
Now we are considering a Road Scholar tour of Sicily.

I'm glad you enjoyed Road Scholar. I've found them to be pretty good although I've not traveled to Italy with them. Their France office is very strong and puts on great tours and has excellent group leaders. I would recommend ANY of their France tours!

The person I believe they are still sub-contracting with for Netherlands and Belgium is a weak link.

I like the model they've moved to with stays in fewer places and day trips out from those locations. I'm just not in to the 2 nights, move, 2 nights, move, model any more, lol!!

There are a couple of good Facebook pages for Road Scholar if you haven't found them yet. Friends of Road Scholar and Women of Road Scholar (well, Mrs Geovagriffith would need to be on that one, lol!!). You might pick up some intel on the Sicily tour if you are curious.

I'm not sure if you're in to ancestry but with Griffith being a Welsh surname, if you are interested in Wales, the RS Snowdonia and Pembrokeshire program might be something you'd enjoy. I did this one in 2013 and the instructor, Conwy Davies, was fabulous!

Thanks for your report on the program!

We were looking a taking the Road Scholar tour of Sicily, especially when the great tour leader is on that tour.

However, the tour activity level is the highest with five miles of walking a day. We walk a lot, but after the 12 day tour doing about 2 1/2 miles a day up and down hills, we were worn out.

Also, the Sicily tour is double the price of the Tuscany/Umbria tour and only two days longer.

Not sure about that.

The price for the Sicily tour may be that high due to the fact that it is a small group tour for about a dozen people.
