We will be driving from Motovun, Croatia to the Lake Constance area September, 2019. We want to drive The Great Dolomites Road. We think we could drive from Motovun to Cortina d'Ampezzo and then to Bolzano. Is that correct? Does anyone have any suggestions? Is that possible to do in one day?
Thank you in advance for any advice.
Cortino is about halfway down the boot of Italy. Are you talking about Motovun to Cortina d'Ampezzo and then Bolzano? If so, then you should be able to do that drive in one day. Motovun to Cortina d'Ampezzo is about 4-1/2 hours, Cortina d'Ampezzo to Bolzano is about 2-1/2 hrs. It's a lot of driving but can be done if you leave Motovun early enough.
Thank you for the reply, Nancy. Would you have a suggestion for reasonably priced ($$) lodging between Cortina d'Ampezzo and Bolzano. We decided to slow it down and stay 2 nights in The Dolomites. Also, would you have suggestions for ‘do not miss’ experiences in The Dolomites.
I've only been in the area once and while we visited both Cortina and Bolzano we did not stay in either so can't offer any accommodation recommendations. I have noticed that several regular posters here on the Dolomites have recommended Ortisei as a preferred place to stay. They also will probably have good suggestions for things to do, hikes to make, etc. Hopefully some of them will give you some input here.
Bumping this up, hoping someone with personal experience in the Dolomites (and I know they are here) can help this person.
