Great hotel in VARENNA. Our last two nights in Italy will be in this town on Lake Como. I would like a very special small hotel near the lake. Does anyone have any recommendations

Hotel Du Lac was lovely! Right on the lake with wonderful views.

We followed RS forum advice and stayed at the Albergo Milano. They have a few rooms with large patio/balconies looking out at the lake, and our view was spectacular. So I would recommend trying to reserve one of those. Its pretty popular, and we saw lots of people with blue books (RS guides) at the restaurant. Walkable from the rail station.

A second for Hotel Du Lac. Great views from the rooms, amazing included breakfast on their terrace overlooking the lake, short walk to everything, friendly and accommodating staff (they even walked to the restaurant my husband left his wallet at the night before we left and mailed it back to us in the US!). Sigh! I wish I was there now!
