We will be driving the Great Dolomite Road from Ortisei to Cortina in early September. We have some flexibility in our schedule. Is there a significant difference in traffic if we go on a weekend versus a weekday? I'm guessing that there is. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
When we drove from Selva di Val Gardena ( near Ortisei) to Cortina last September, there was more traffic on weekends than weekdays. If you get an early start by 8am, though, you should be fine.
Be sure to allow time to stop at the five towers (“Cinque Torre”) about 20 miles outside of Cortina. It was the highlight of the day.
Thanks. Yes. Cinque Torre is on our list.
If you have time, have lunch at Rifugio Scoiattoli at the top of the chairlift at Cinque Torri - I had the Violette ai sapori del bosco, and it was wonderful. Their Hugo Spritz is also very nice, much tastier than Aperol.
