Great day trips from Florence

Hello! Two moms with 2 14 year old daughters will be in Florence for 4 nights. We want to see Florence sights, but my friend also wants to see hilltowns, etc. I've been before and just want to keep everyone happy. What are great day trips from Florence? Should I drive or train? My husband has always driven on previous trips. Think I'll be fine driving? Thanks!

Pisa and Lucca are easy daytrips from Florence. If your daughters haven't seen Pisa I think they would enjoy it. On our first trip to Italy our boys were 5th and 9th grade and they really loved climbing the tower. You do need reservations to do this and I did it online prior to leaving home (bring your passport with you when you go to pick up your tkts). Lucca is beautiful with the wall around the city for strolling. Not as touristy as other places either. My husband usually drives in Italy (not me!) so on a trip with my sisters we used the trains which were a breeze. Very easy train ride from Florence to Pisa and/or Lucca. You can easily take the bus from FLorence to Siena (faster to take bus than train and it dropped us off near the Basilica of San Domenico). Buon Viaggio!

Siena is a 1 hr. bus trip, and a must see.
San Gimignano is a short distance from Siena, again by bus. It's the hill country town famous for its towers, and he most touristy.
