Great beach area in Italy for 4 days?

Hello, my girlfriend and I are travelling through Europe this summer seeing various countries. We will be spending roughly 4 days in Italy and want to be in a beach area. Any suggestions of must-go areas? I've looked at several places in Sardinia and the water/beaches look absolutely beautiful, so something in line with that is what we want. We also want the area to have a good amount of life to it, not just the beach relaxation feeling. We will be flying to Italy from Berlin if that makes any difference. Thanks!

There are more than 5 thousand miles of coastline in Italy mainland and its islands. Southeastern Sicilia is worth considering. So is Puglia.

Sardinia is perfectly fine. I'm just wondering about specific locations/hotels that people could recommend. Sardinia looks like a great option.

Keep in mind that people have different definitions for beaches. If you're looking for the soft sand beaches so typical of Florida, you'll not find that so easily in Italy. Most of the Italian beaches we've every been to have the rocky pebbly beaches. Also remember that Italy sits far north of Florida as far as longitude so the water may be a bit colder than you might expect. We visited Sorrento in June several years ago and the Mediterranean was a beautiful blue with a temperature more like a cold a mountain stream. It's not better or worse - just different.

Kevin, There are a lot of beach resorts on the eastern (Adriatic) coast that you could look at. They seem to be quite popular not only with Italians but also other Europeans. Have a look at the tourism sites for Rimini, Cattolica/Gabbice Mare or Pesaro. There are a LOT of Hotels in each town, some with direct beach access and some within easy walking distance. Happy travels!

Hi, we have never been to Italy (planning stages) but I just checked Tripadvisor for "Best beaches in Italy" and it gave me a top 10. You might want to check it out. There is a decent description for most. There was one in particular that stated "relaxing beaches and wild night life" in Villasimius, Sardinia, Italy. Looked awesome! Good luck!

Nice beaches in Rimini, Riccione -- we have family there, and it's crazy busy fun and festive in the summer, with discos, nightlife, and really nice sand, if that's what you're looking for. Also, the Adriatic is MUCH warmer than the Med.

Well, we stayed in Cagliari, and drove to some of the beaches surrounding Villasimeus. They were beautiful. Cagliari has a great little airport with flights coming in from all over. But we did not stay in a resort. We rented a small, "nothing special" apt across the street from a beach in Cagliari, and drove to different beaches. Remember, summer is when all of the Italians head to the beach, so it will be packed, and there will be "lots of action".
