GPS Tuscany Recommendations

We will be staying in Montepulchiani for ten nights and taking day trips with our rental car. Last year we were very pleased with Verizon international and google gps in Galway, Mayo, Sligo and Donegal.

Will this plan work in Tuscany? Any other suggestions?

Thank you so much for suggestions!

Waze also works well in Italy and gives a bit more road info than Google Maps. If your phone is unlocked, check the cost of Verizon vs. purchasing a TIM for Tourists SIM card for €20. Works all over Italy and may save you some money.

We just returned from Tuscany in June. We primarily used Waze when driving. It works very well and they highlight the speeding cameras and police. We used Google Maps offline for walking (you can use it for driving offline as well if you don’t have an international plan), especially valid when you are in bigger towns like Siena. We also used AchorPointer when we need to mark or car (parking) or a store for finding later. Again, works well in larger towns.

Driving in Tuscany was straightforward and enjoyable. Have a great trip.

Yup, Apple, Google, Waze... used them all and they all worked well in Tuscany. One thing we didn't anticipate when we stayed in Montepulciano... the landlord we rented our apartment from DIDN'T register our car's license plate with the local police like he told us he would the day we arrived. So three months later, we got four notices that we had entered the ZTL without authorization (to access the apartment we were staying in after touring the countryside each day!). Having lots of fun trying to get that cleaned up.
