I was thinking of bringing my Garmin nuvi along with me on a tour to Venice but am not sure that I would be able to get a signal in all the small streets. Has anyone had any experience using a dedicated GPS unit in Venice?
Venice is a really small area. If you have one or two good old fashioned maps you should be able to get around without the GPS. Some of the streets and back areas are quite narrow and have some tall buildings so I'm not sure it would work at all. If you go to bing.com and use the map feature, it has excellent aerial and birds eye views that will quickly give you a good orientation. Hope this helps. TC
You're never far away from a piazza that opens up enough to get you a signal. That said, part of the charm of Venice is getting lost every now and then, so leave the GPS in your room when you're not on a deadline.
