GPS assistance needed- please.

I purchased a Garmin Oregon 450 on ebay and my travel partner was supposed to figure out the map downloads, etc., but did not...so here we are in Paris, departing for Italy on Friday. Will only need GPS for Tuscany region, the only place I'll be driving. So, is it possible and how would I download maps and transfer them to the garmin, when I only have an iPad, not a laptop with me? Thank you sooo much for your assistance I advance.

You can't.

If you stuck MapsWithMe (Pro) in the tablet and downloaded the Italy map, you'd have a gps moving blip on a searchable map that wouldn't use cellular data -- but you'd have to hive out your own turns.

Kill the other dolt and bury the body.

I you have an iPad, buy a SIM card and short-term data plan once you cross the border. I never got lost using iMaps during my car rental time from Orvieto to Bologna.

Use Via Michlin to load maps on to your iPad. Just load the trip for that day.

If you're in a hotel with computer access - most Euro hotels I've stayed at have a public access PC - you should be able to download and install the maps. However, they take a looong time to install. If it weren't for a GPS, I'd still be trying to get out of Palermo!

You do realize that the Oregon 450 is an older model (maybe out of date) hiking and biking oriented GPS. It is not specifically designed for cars. Unfortunately there are many better choices if primarily used for driving.

opps - just noticed your date. You have either figured it out or are lost in Tuscany. There are worse fates.
