Apparently there is a way to download maps to your phone ot iPad. I don't really get the whole process. Is theva youTube video that explains it? Thanks for the help

Go to the App Store on your iPhone or iPad and look for mapping applications. Several will allow you to download maps for later use without using data. Another option is to selectively turn off your roaming function only for certain apps on an iPhone or iPad. This allows you to keep your data for your mapping program while turning off your other functions.

Download the google map app
In the upper left is the three line icon, indicating the menu, click on it. Go to off line areas.
Download your area.
Remember the smaller the area, the more detail you will have available to you when you are off line.

Also, if you star a place on a Google map while you are online, the stars will show up on the maps when you're off line. It's a great way to find sites and restaurants you want to go to.

Google maps has now added where to find your car. click on the blue dot that shows your location and a menu will pop up allowing you to mark the location and give a walking trail back to the car. This is also good to use in Venice where one can get easily get lost in the alleys.:-)
