Driving to Ortisei from Milan does google maps work?
It depends. Google Maps works well in Italy, but you should prepare for not having a cell phone signal. Google Maps relies on a GPS signal and a map database. The base map can reach your phone from pre-loaded storage on your phone or from a real time cell phone or wifi signal. You should download a Google map of the area for off-line use when you have a wifi connection and then you won't need a cell phone connection at all (except you'll not have real-time traffic info).
I prefer Waze, it's much more current with road conditions.
The directions are ok, but don't trust the driving time estimates. Always budget more time.
If you want to be warned about speed cameras and ZTL you should use Waze.
