Goodbye to Campania Artecard

The best tourist card bargain is now gone, as of June 1. It may be reintroduced at some point.

In the meantime, a moment of silence...

That is too bad! It could be confusing, but if you got the right card, it was wonderful. How about transit passes? Seems they had some good ones.....

The official website now says beginning June 1 there may be difficulties buying new cards or using already-purchased cards while technical upgrades of the platform are being performed. It provides a contact phone number and email address to report problems. Crazy for them to do a major upgrade during high season rather than over the winter, but positive is that it sounds like the card will still be around and everything will be back to normal once the upgrade is complete.

Hope they bring it back, it sure needed an upgrade. As Zoe and Laurel said, by far the best value in Italy, with the wonkiest web site out there.

I never could get the right card so I never got one. Pity.

Any updates on this?
I have made the mistake to order 2 cards online. Now did I lose my money AND will have to pay for all the transportations and museums when I go to Campania...?
That would be a shame. This shows a total lack of organization and care for tourism.

turboled, I think you are jumping the gun here. The Artecard is no longer being sold, that does not mean that the ones you purchased will not be honored. Or that a refund will not be given to you if it is not honored. Contact the vendor for current info. You might consider packing some patience, some things are bound to go awry at some point.

This card was absurdly underpriced, anyway.

Oh my god, relax! Did you seat on an hornet's nest this morning? Neapolitans will see this way of thinking from kms away and will turn your vacation into a nightmare just being themselves... and will love doing so. Do you remember Goethe? "Naples is a paradise where demons use to live". Don't be grumpy with demons.

Local news are all focused on the new 16 € card that lets you enter both the M.A.N.N. and the Capodimonte Museums with a single ticket that includes also a return bus ride between the 2 attractions.

The notice about technical upgrades has disappeared from the official website and, from the posting above, it sounds like a new Campania ArteCard is now in place. The official website includes an email address - [email protected]. It might be wise to email and clarify how to use the card you purchased online.

I'm worried because I have read on TripAdvisor from people who went in June and asked at every sight when the Artecard will be available and nobody has an answer.
Also the fact that the company that handles the Artecard sales has changed abruptly makes me wonder who got my money.
I have kindly written to every email address listed on the website and never got any response.

It does not show lot of common sense to go through major changes in the peak season and not provide adequate information to tourists that have already planned their stay based on it, the fact that they won't have to worry on how to buy individual tickets for the bus, circumvesuviana and such.

TurboLed, I was one of those people asking about it in June. As far as I could tell, it was still being honored. Signs were in the tourist info offices that it was not being sold.

Sounds like you have tried every avenue to get current info. I am betting that if you try to use yours, it will be honored, although I know that's not the certain answer you are looking for.

@Zoe
Does it mean I can show my voucher email to the info point or the museum and they will give me a card?
I have finally got a reply today from the official email ([email protected]) telling me the card bought online is not available and I need to request a refund from [email protected]. Of course I never got a reply from bestunion for the last 2 days. 64 Euros (2 cards) is a lot of money!
They also told me the 3-day card can still be purchased and gave me a list of locations.

This website explains that the Artecard management was moved from one company to another:

2 days is not very long if they're being overwhelmed with email (which is likely the case). I'm sure you'll get your refund: just give it time. You could also call them with your questions: +390815752524

If you ordered it with a credit card, you could have your CC company reverse the charges so I wouldn't be concerned about being out the $$.

Stuff happens. It just does. I remember the rug being yanked from under Firenze's Amici degli Uffizi annual passholders midyear back in 2015, and that one probably affected the locals a great deal more than tourists. Train strikes, plane delays, abrupt security closures, renovation/restoration closures, hiking trail closures....

The Serenity Prayer is a useful tool in the traveler's world...even for beady-eyed heathens like myself. 😉

I did my trip and the Artecard was still available, but I had to buy a new one and get a refund to an EU account with a wire transfer. It took several weeks to get my refund but I finally got it. The Artecard is the exact same card, same conditions and ease of use.
