Good road map for Tuscany

Trying to find a good road map especially for the area " Best of Tuscany " driving tour, that can be use while driving. The Rick Steves book is ok but need something larger. The Michelin map is too small.

Italian Touring Cub maps might be what you want.

Any map of Tuscany will do. You can buy one at any newsstand. The important thing when you plan your trip is to mark the names of the main towns in your itinerary. Then simply follow the directions to the next town. Don't rely too much on GPS navigators. I'm testing my Garmin in Tuscany currently and sometimes it would send me through some ridiculous routes, like old roads that may be shorter but in worse conditions, therefore much slower. I know my way around most of Tuscany but I find that the best route is the one you get by following signs.

I used the Michelin Central Italy map (map #563, scale 1: 400,000, or 1 cm = 4 km). The big atlas is an even closer view (1 cm = 3 km). Turning back to Rick's book, intros to each chapter will often mention places to park. Not on the road, but in my hotel room with Wi-Fi, I often would back this up by viewing town details on Google Maps.

Roberto, please give Garmin feedback!! Maybe they will do some updates before we arrive in Tuscany (for the first time) with our Garmin in October!

Will there be anyplace near the Hertz on Via Sansovino in Florence that sells the maps you mention?

I have the Michelin Italy Central map but find it small print and not exactly like the Rick Steves maps. Will try the Italy Road Atlas but probably similar to the Central Map. I am also taking my Garmin GPS with updated chip. Also will try Google map.

Michael, We have been to Tuscany many times and I found a map that works great for us. The map is called "Toscana" by Touring Club Italiano there is a small Italian flag logo in the upper right corner and goes for 7 euros. It is just for Tuscany and is very detailed. It's about 5 X 9 inches and is green and yellow. I think I got this one in a grocery store while in Tuscany. We are going back there soon and this map goes with us.
Happy driving
